GAME DAY MEMORIES
Oilers/Titans vs Bills - Comebacks and Miracles
The Tennessee Titans travel
to Buffalo today to play the Bills. I
know you are all thinking "who cares." Fair point.
Whenever these two teams get together, though, I can't help but to flash
back to two of the most unbelievable games ever played.
In January 1993 the Oilers
played the Bills in the wild card round of the playoffs. Jim Kelly was injured so Frank Reich started
at QB for Buffalo. The Oilers (who later
moved to Tennessee) jumped out to a 35-3 lead behind Warren Moon and several
big plays from the Oiler defense. Then
the magic started. Reich led Buffalo all
the way back to tie the game at 38. The
Bills then won it in overtime on a Steve Christie field goal. http://blogs.buffalonews.com/press-coverage/2012/10/mike-munchak-has-comeback-comeback-at-the-ready.html
Seven years later the two
teams met again in the wild card playoff round.
The Bills scored with 16 seconds to play to take a 16-15 lead. The Bills needed simply to kick off and stop
one play to secure a hard fought playoff win.
It didn't happen that
way. The Bills kicked off short and high. Tight end Steve Wychek ended up with the ball
and tossed a cross-field lateral to wideout Kevin Dyson. Dyson sped down the sideline for the winning
score on a play that is known as the Music City Miracle. To this day people dispute whether the
Wycheck toss was a legal lateral or an illegal forward pass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2I4_UP8_2M
These two teams may not get
your heart beating in week seven. But if
they ever meet in the playoffs, make sure you record it.
