NFL Monday Nights - Bo vs the Boz

NFL MONDAY NIGHT MOMENTS

BO VS THE BOZ

Brian Bosworth was the brash linebacker from Oklahoma who had signed the largest rookie contract ever with the Seattle Seahawks in 1987.  Bo Jackson was the 1985 Heisman Trophy winning running back from Auburn.  Or was he the power-hitting outfielder making his way in the baseball world?  Or could he be both?

On November 30, 1987, Bosworth’s Seahawks played Jackson’s Raiders on a Monday night in Seattle.  In typical fashion, Bosworth had created a media event by loudly proclaiming how he would dominate Bo Jackson.  Jackson was playing just his fifth NFL game after completing his baseball season.

The Raiders won the game and Jackson spoke loudly on the field.  He scored three TDs, including a mind-blowing 91-yard run where he outran the angle the Seattle defender had on him.  More fitting, he ran over Bosworth in a mano et mano goal line altercation (or more like shoulder to shoulder).

Injuries curtailed the careers of both men.  We will largely remember Bosworth as a loud-mouthed bust.  We will remember Jackson as a once in a lifetime talent who did amazing things on the gridiron and the diamond.  A lightning bolt that flashed and then was gone.
