GAME DAY MEMORIES
Dolphins vs Jets - Fake Spike Game
In one of those oddities of
NFL geography, the Jets and the Dolphins have been divisional rivals since the
Dolphins entered the AFL back in 1966.
That means the teams have played each other close to 100 times. The laws
of math say there have to have been some memorable games along the way. Let's go find one.
In week 12 of the1994 season
the Dolphins traveled to the Meadowlands to play the Jets. The Dolphins at 7-4 and the Jets at 6-6 were
locked with New England in a tight race for the AFC East lead.
Boomer Esiason and the Jets
raced to a 17-0 lead. The Dolphins
rallied as Dan Marino threw three touchdown passes to Mark Ingram to cut the
deficit to 24-21. Late in the game
Esiasan threw an interception to give the Dolphins one last shot to win the
game. Marino drove the Dolphins to the
Jet 8-yard line with 30 seconds to play.
Marino motioned as though he was
going to spike the ball to the ground to stop the clock and the Jet defense
relaxed. Marino instead whipped a pass
to Ingram in the corner of the end zone.
Ingram had his fourth touchdown on the day and the Dolphins had a key
comeback victory.
