NFL Monday Night - Broncos go 6-0

NFL Monday Night Moments
Broncos Beat Chargers to go 6-0

Three years ago the Broncos went to San Diego to play the Chargers on Monday night.  The Broncos were an unlikely 5-0 under new coach Josh McDaniels.  The Chargers were 2-2 coming off a Bye.  The Broncos were coming off an emotional week five overtime win over the New England Patriots.  McDaniels left his role as New England offensive coordinator to take the head job in Denver.

The stage seemed set for San Diego to restore order in the AFC West and close the gap on the Broncos.  Instead, the Broncos prevailed 34-23, in large part due to two kick returns for touchdowns by Eddie Royal.  After six weeks Denver held a 3.5 division lead over the powerful Chargers.

The fortunes of the two teams headed in dramatically opposite directions after the Monday night contest.  Denver would lose its next four games and eight of its last ten to finish a disappointing 8-8 and out of the playoffs.  The Chargers would reel off eleven straight wins to finish 13-3 and win the AFC West.  The Chargers pummeled the Broncos in week eleven in Denver 32-3.

Eddie Royal won't torment the Chargers this year.  He left Denver and signed with the San Diego after the 2011 season.
